Wet market to be built at Sengkang West

SINGAPORE – The National Environment Agency has given approval to build a wet market at the former Fernvale Point site in Sengkang West, its MP Lam Pin Min announced on his Facebook page on Friday.

The wet market will be part of an integrated community facility that will also include a community club, childcare centre and hawker centre, he wrote. This will benefit nearby executive condo residents such as those from The Terrace EC, Treasure Crest ECWaterwoods EC, The Amore EC, The Vales EC and Bellewaters EC.

A building fund committee has been formed to help raise funds for this project, he said.

In May 2015, Dr Lam had said on his Facebook page that residents had shared “concerns, suggestions and hopes” on the use of the Fernvale site. That site was where Fernvale Point – a one-storey complex of small shops, including a FairPrice outlet, a wet market and an open-air Koufu foodcourt – used to be.

In February, he announced that a new integrated community complex would be built there. The complex would include facilities such as a community club, hawker centre, childcare centre, he said.
