Waft of durian to greet residents

SINGAPORE – The waft of durian may greet residents at the Sembawang Sports and Community Hub when it partially opens in three years (2019). This will benefit residents of nearby executive condo such as those from Northwave EC , Brownstone EC, The Visionaire ECSignature at Yishun, Skypark Residences and Parc Life EC .

The Pasir Panjang nursery, which has provided the lush trees and shrubs along Singapore’s roads and parks the past four decades, is turning its attention to supplying fruit trees and shrubs to parks and community gardens. And this includes durian, mango and papaya.

On Thursday (Aug 11), Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan and Acting Education Minister Ong Ye Kung – MPs in Sembawang GRC – were given a tour of the nursery. They also presented saplings from their own garden to the nursery.

The 12-hectare nursery is the size of roughly 30 football fields. It is home to 3,000 species of flora, and supplies Singapore with 200,000 plants a year.
