SINGAPORE – Sky-high gardens where residents can meet neighbours and a “terraced” waterside landscape are among the design features for which 11 architectural consultants were recognised in this year’s Housing Board (HDB) Design Awards.
Surbana Jurong Consultants bagged four design awards, including one for Waterway Ridges on the bank of the Punggol Waterway. The design of Waterway Ridges is inspired by the Chinese shan-shui paintings, where nature and the built form are intertwined to create beautiful homes by the water. Built on a slope, the public housing project has blocks of different heights and orientation to create a terraced effect that maximises views of the waterway. The Terrace EC is by the Punggol Waterway. Recent EC launches include Treasure Crest and Northwave EC while existing ones include The Terrace EC, Brownstone EC, The Vales EC, Parc Life EC , Sol Acres EC, The Visionaire EC, Bellewoods EC, Signature at Yishun, The Criterion EC, Waterwoods EC, Skypark Residences, Wandervale EC, The Amore EC, Bellewaters EC.
Twelve construction firms also received the HDB Construction Award for quality construction.
One of the winning projects for design was SkyVille@ Dawson, by Woha Architects. The community-centric design includes the concept of “Sky Villages”, with each cluster of 80 homes sharing one high-rise garden where residents can meet and mingle.
Besides new public housing projects, the HDB Design Awards also recognise upgrading of estates. Among this year’s winners are two neighbourhood centres in East Coast which were upgraded under the Remaking Our Heartland scheme, and the upgrading project in Simei Street 1 under the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme.
The HDB Construction Award winners include seven housing projects which received Conquas scores of over 90, above the national average of 88.5.
The Conquas or Construction Quality Assessment System score, by the Building and Construction Authority, reflects building aspects such as workmanship, structural works and mechanical and electrical works.
The other five winners for construction quality include three upgrading projects, the building of Tanah Merah Staging Ground, and a mechanised parking system.
The awards will be presented at the annual awards ceremony on Thursday.
