SINGAPORE — Residents in Punggol West will have another transport option to get to Punggol MRT Station on the North-East Line and the town centre’s bus interchange, when one more station begins operation along the Light Rail Transit (LRT) line in the neighbourhood. This will benefit nearby nearby executive condo residents such as those from The Terrace EC, Waterwoods EC, Amore EC, Bellewaters EC and The Vales EC.
The Sam Kee Station on the West Loop will open on Monday, Feb 29, more than a year after three LRT stations — Nibong, Sumang and Soo Teck — were opened on the 5km loop. Three more stations — Samudera, Punggol Point and Teck Lee — will open in future in tandem with developments in the area.
The new Sam Kee Station will allow commuters easier access to the SAFRA Punggol Clubhouse, opening in April, as well as the Punggol Waterway Park.
SBS Transit said in a press statement on Thursday (Feb 18) that the light-rail trains on the Punggol West Loop will continue to run in one direction from the start of train service to 3pm daily. From the Punggol Town Centre Station, the trains will move in a counter-clockwise direction to Sam Kee, Nibong, Sumang, and Soo Teck stations, and back to Punggol Town Centre Station in a continuous loop.
From 3pm to the end of service, the trains will move in the opposite direction of the loop. Trains will run every seven to eight minutes throughout the day.
